Why You'll Buy GTA 5 Again on Xbox One/PS4/PC, According to Take-Two

The improvements featured in the upcoming Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC versions of Rockstar's 2013 open-world hit, Grand Theft Auto V, are so numerous and compelling that people who already bought the game for Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 will have a tough time saying no to spending another $60 for an additional copy.

That's according to Take-Two Interactive president Karl Slatoff, who said during an MKM Partners Entertainment & Leisure Conference today that the upcoming Xbox One and PS4 versions of GTA V could also help sell hardware.

"Yes, we have sold in 34 million units, which is a lot of units," he said. "The obvious question is, 'Is there anyone else out there who would still buy it?' We happen to believe that there are people out there who have not bought the title yet. We think that GTA V on next-gen platforms could actually really move some hardware as well."

Slatoff went on to say that Rockstar Games is intent on "delivering on a creative vision that will compel people to go out and lay out more money than they already have at this point."

That's because GTA V for new consoles will offer "something very special," not only in the form of better graphics, but also from a content perspective, Slatoff said. Just last week, Rockstar announced that GTA V will launch November 18 for Xbox One and PS4, featuring over 100 new radio station songs, and exclusive content in the form of vehicles and weapons for people who already played the Xbox 360 or PS3 versions.

The game will also offer major visual and technical upgrades like increased draw distances and higher resolution overall. In addition, GTA V for Xbox One, PS4, and PC will include more weapons, vehicles, and activities; additional wildlife; denser traffic; a new foliage system; and better damage and weather effects.

"The world is going to feel more rich; it's going to be more vivid; it's going to be more alive," Slatoff said. "We think the value proposition will be very compelling."

Also during the talk, Slatoff addressed GTA V's multiplayer mode, Grand Theft Auto Online. In short, it's been a big success for Take-Two. "It's fair to say that GTA Online has surpassed our expectations. And it continues to do so." And about its future potential? "The sky is really the limit," Slatoff said.

GTA Online is Take-Two's new attempt to create what it calls "recurrent consumer spending." The online mode lets you spend real-world money for virtual items, which boosts the profitability of the game beyond the initial $60 purchase price. Take-Two has said previously that 70 percent of GTA V players have connected to GTA Online, but the company has not shared any official revenue figures for the multiplayer mode.

"The longevity, and our ability to generate income from GTA Online in the future, is really going to be dependent upon the content offerings that we continue to make," Slatoff said. "We have a long-term plan to continue to offer content to the consumer."

As long as consumers see the value of new GTA Online content and engage with it in a meaningful way, which they are right now, Slatoff says, then, "we really see that this is a great opportunity for us going into the future."

The PC version of GTA V was originally targeted to launch this year, but it is now expected to arrive in January 2015.

Destiny Creators Challenge You To Beat Them At Their Own Game

Think you're good enough at Destiny to beat the game's developers? You may have a chance to prove your skills, as Bungie has announced a weekly competition where developers at the studio will square off with community members in Destiny multiplayer.

Once a week, beginning Thursday, a team of Bungie developers will enter Destiny's multiplayer mode, the Crucible, where they'll play against anyone they meet. If your team is good enough and ends up winning, you'll receive the player emblem below--The Sign of Opposing Will.

The Sign of Opposing Will The festivities begin tonight at 7 PM PDT on PlayStation 4. Bungie's team, consisting of the names below as well as alternates to be named later, will play for an hour. If you end up taking down Bungie, you can claim your prize by posting a link to your victory in the comments section of this story before 12 noon PDT on Friday, September 26.

Look for these names in Destiny's Crucible:

Winning teams will get a mention in Bungie's Weekly Update blog post, and player emblems will appear in the Tower on the following Tuesday.

Bungie says it will hold developer vs. community events such as this often and in the game's various playlists. Though the first competition is being held on PS4, Bungie says players on "every platform" will have a shot to take down Bungie at its own game to claim their prize.

Destiny launched last Tuesday and generated more than $325 million in sold-through revenue. Players tallied more than 100 million hours in the game during its first week, which is on par with historical Call of Duty trends, Activision says. The game's release also boosted PS4 sales to the console's highest weekly sales tally since holiday 2013.

Hyrule Warriors Review Roundup

Hyrule Warriors is now just about a week away from its release on Wii U. The first reviews have hit the web this week, a sampling of which we've gathered up below to give you some idea of what to expect.

This mash-up of the Zelda and Warriors (known as Musuo in Japan) series was developed by Omega Force and Team Ninja, though Nintendo also had a hand in its development. It was originally conceived as being more like a Zelda game than a Dynasty Warriors one, but Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto stepped in and reversed that initial vision.

Multiplayer is featured in Hyrule Warriors, but it's unfortunately restricted to local play only. Provided you've got a second controller (be it a Wii Remote or Wii U Pro controller), you'll be able to take part in some co-op action with a friend.

Nintendo has announced plans to offer extensive support for the game going forward. A free update being released on launch day will add things like a new weapon and game mode, with plans for more content to be added in the future. For now, you can get some additional costumes by preordering the game at select retailers.

You can check out a handful of reviews below. For more, check out GameSpot sister site Metacritic.

Game: Hyrule WarriorsDeveloper: Omega Force/Team NinjaPlatforms: Wii URelease Date: September 26Price: $59.99"Aside from introducing many Legend of Zelda fans to the Warriors franchise, Hyrule Warriors adds little innovation to Koei's megaseries as a whole, but nevertheless brings an undeniable spark ignited by the crossover cast itself. As one of the more well-produced Warriors games in recent memory, it is easy to see Hyrule Warriors paving the way for more Warriors spin-offs--other properties that have a substantial amount of melee combat." [Full review]

"Hyrule Warriors is an odd move for Nintendo, but it's one that will make a specific audience of the gaming world very happy. As someone who loves Zelda and is lukewarm at best on Dynasty Warriors, I appreciated the references to the former while becoming frustrated at the bare-bones gameplay of the latter. This quirky offshoot is better than any Dynasty Warriors game I've played, while simultaneously being the worst Zelda game I've ever played." [Full review]

"Hyrule Warriors demonstrates that the Zelda universe works within the Dynasty Warriors framework, but with limitations. It makes sense for Link to cut down fiendish hordes in the name of Hyrule. It's exciting to play as beloved characters that up until now were just supporting cast members. But Hyrule Warriors' novelty wears off as the game trips over its setup, story, and shallow systems." [Full review]

"Hyrule Warriors, like every Musou game, is an acquired taste. But here, dressed in Zelda's pea-green livery, with the series' attendant tinkling melodies, idiosyncratic characters, and memorable locations, it's unusually friendly and engaging. The genre is often unfairly criticized for being a mindless power fantasy in a medium that specializes in mindless power fantasies. But Hyrule Warriors rewards thoughtful play and demands a strategic approach that transcends the brute force combo-strings of its moment-to-moment gameplay. The marriage of Zelda and Musou is an unexpected success, then--a game that recounts the Zelda myth not just in a new way, but in a whole new language." [Full review]

"The best part of Hyrule Warriors is seeing the stylized versions of the classic characters, taking the characters' movesets out for a spin, and absorbing the love Koei Tecmo has for the Zelda series. But nostalgia and fanservice can only take the game so far. Hyrule Warriors is held back by monotonous gameplay, brain-dead AI enemies, and overlong missions that quickly exhaust you with repeat actions, enemies, and environments." [Full review]

"Hyrule Warriors is basically a one-note experience, but it hits that note with perfect pitch. The Zelda universe works better as a Musou button-masher than you might expect, and much of that success is down to Tecmo's obvious love for the subject matter. This isn't a patch on what we've seen of the next 'true' Zelda, but it should tide fans over quite nicely until that one arrives." [Full review]

FIFA 15 Released Early on Xbox One via EA Access

Electronic Arts is giving Xbox One owners the chance to play the full version of FIFA 15 one week ahead of general release.

Those who subscribe to the EA Access service can play the soccer sim now for a total of six hours. Saved data and progress will also carry over once the full game is released.

"You can play all of the trial at once or spread your gaming over several days. Either way, you'll get regular updates letting you know how much time you have left," EA wrote on its website.

The publisher adds that the six-hour allowance is still being used if the game is running in the background on Xbox One. "Be sure to quit the game when you're not playing in order to maximize your game time," EA said.

FIFA 15 goes on general release on September 23 across North America, across Europe two days later and in the UK specifically on September 26. That means EA Access offers a six-hour introduction to the full game a week ahead of launch.

EA Access is a new $5/month games subscription service that, as well as granting users with early admission to its major releases, also features a growing list of games to play for free.

Free games on EA Access include Battlefield 4, Madden NFL 25, and Peggle 2. Customers have unlimited ownership of these titles for as long as their membership lasts.

Electronic Arts originally wanted the service to appear on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but Sony rejected the membership deal.

Internal tests by GameSpot's editorial team suggested that the game has yet to appear on US consoles. EA has said the rollout process has begun, so content should unlock shortly.

Metal Gear Collection 2014 Isn't A New Game Compilation Pack, It's A Clothing Line

During the Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain presentation at the Tokyo Game Show, Konami officially announced the Metal Gear Collection 2014, after Hideo Kojima teased a reveal last week. It's not a new video game compilation pack, but rather a clothing line.

Polygon reports that the Metal Gear Collection 2014 will feature clothing items designed for men and women, including shoes and accessories. As you might expect, the clothing and accessories are mostly camouflage-based and feature the Foxhound logo.

Image credit: Polygon We also got a look at a special-edition white Metal Gear Solid V PlayStation 4, a snake action figure, an iDroid-inspired smartphone case, and even a posable replica of Snake's prosthesis from the game.

It's unclear when the Metal Gear Collection 2014 will go on sale. But if you just can't wait to buy clothing based on the popular series, third-party retailer Musterbrand offers its own Metal Gear clothing line.

Regarding actual video game news, Konami released a new Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain trailer (above) during its TGS briefing and confirmed that the game will launch in 2015.

Super Smash Bros. Character eShop Sale Week 3: Pokemon and Metroid

The third week of Nintendo's ongoing eShop sale featuring Super Smash Bros. characters' games has begun, and this time around it's Pokemon, Metroid, and Wii Fit games that are discounted. Unfortunately, compared with the first two weeks, this week's selection is especially limited--there are fewer games on sale than there are playable characters from these three series in the new Super Smash Bros.

As far as Pokemon games go, you can get Pokemon Rumble U for $11, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity for $25, and Pokemon Battle Trozei (the newest game in this week's sale) for $5.50.

Metroid fans will only find the original Metroid itself as the one game on sale. $3.49 gets you the Wii U or 3DS version--there's no cross-buy support here, so you'll need to buy it twice if you want to have access to it on both platforms.

Finally, Wii U owners looking to get into shape can get the premium version of Wii Fit U for $20, a $10 savings over the regular version. You'll need a Balance Board (either from the original Wii Fit or by buying one separately) in order to play, and the digital version, as you can probably guess, doesn't come with the Fit Meter.

You can check out all of this week's deals (that's all of them above) in list form below, along with a preview of which characters' games will be discounted beginning next Thursday. Super Smash Bros. for 3DS launches on October 3 (a demo arrives tomorrow), followed by the Wii U version later this year.

Even '90s Nostalgia Can Become a Counter-Strike Map

I can attest, with intense embarrassment and pride, that I am old enough to know that the '90s were utterly amazing. It had Britpop, it had the best episodes of The Simpsons, it had Jurassic Park and Friends, it had N64s and Metal Gear, its cigarettes were cheap, its terrorists were lazy, and its community was far more socially galvanized due to primitive communication tools.

Oh wait, what was I supposed to be talking about? Oh yes: Gone Home is a spellbinding FPS that replaces guns with questions and swaps targets with clues. (Disclaimer: You don't literally fire questions at clues).

You play as a college student returning to her parents' home, only to find the house vacated without knowing why. I really can't go any further without spoiling, but that journey of discovery is certainly one you should take.

The lasting beauty of Gone Home is how it turns a first-person game into a tenderhearted exploration, laced with nostalgia and small remnants of a cherished childhood.

So, inevitably, some enterprising Counter-Strike: GO modder has recreated this '90s home into a multiplayer map, featuring corridor choke-points and death-trap basement tunnels.

"Your family is mysteriously missing again," reads the description for the map on Steam.

"But you can figure that out later. Right now you have more pressing issues to attend to, like the fact that your house is full of terrorists and some dude has been taken hostage. Rescue him by taking him to the garage where you can make a swift getaway on that old bike that's been sitting there for twenty years."

Take a look yourself in the video above. It's pretty funny.

Dark Souls Dev Won't Stop Making Difficult Games Anytime Soon

Don't expect From Software--creator of games like Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, and Bloodborne--to stop making games with a high degree of difficulty anytime soon.

Dark Souls II director Yui Tanimura said during a roundtable interview at the Tokyo Game Show this week that difficult games are now the "minority" in the video game industry. But this won't stop the Japanese studio from making games that might make you rip your hair out.

"Other than focusing on a dark fantasy world, we're focusing more on making players experience the sense of accomplishment," he said. "That's what we have been always pursuing for all games that From Software has created. We are aware that creating [games] featuring higher difficulty is becoming a minority in this industry. But that's what From Software has been working on. In order to bring a sense of accomplishment to the players, that's something we have to keep, stick with it, and keep remaining to do for all the upcoming titles that we will be creating."

Tanimura's comments came in response to a question regarding how From Software's famously difficult games have influenced other titles in the industry. He says that it is a "really good thing" that there are now more Dark Souls-like games out there because it means that what the studio has created is now accepted by a wider audience.

From Software's most recent release was March's Dark Souls II. The game continues to expand with new add-on content, the latest offering being the Crown of the Ivory King, due out next week. You can see a preview for that content in our video above.

Next up for From Software is the PlayStation 4 role-playing game Bloodborne. Just today, we learned the game will launch in North America on February 6, and got a new look at the game through a fresh trailer.

Star Wars Commander Launching Today For Android, Windows

Following its release in late August, Disney's free-to-play mobile game Star War Commander has jumped up the charts with 5 million downloads on iOS alone. Now, the game is expanding further, launching today for two new platforms: Android and Windows devices.

Star Wars Commander is a combat strategy game in the vein of Clash of Clans. One of the game's main differentiating factors, however, is that you can choose your side, either the Rebel Alliance or the Galactic Empire. On iOS, most people are playing as the Dark Side, except for gamers in North Dakota for some reason.

Additionally, Disney announced today that it plans to continue to update Star Wars Commander with new stories and characters.

You can download Star Wars Commander today from Google Play at this link. Later today, the game should be available for download from the Windows Phone Store and Windows Store.

For more on Star Wars Commander, check out GameSpot's interview with Disney about the game.

Rock Band Network Shutting Down After Four Years and Over 2,000 Songs

The Rock Band Network, a platform launched in 2010 that allowed fans, artists, and even record labels to release music for Rock Band games, is shutting down. Developer Harmonix announced the news in a forum posting this week.

"After four years, 2,121 songs, and countless hours of investment from some of the most talented and passionate Rock Band fans around, it's time for the sun to (officially) set on Rock Band Network," Harmonix wrote.

The company went on to say that when it originally launched the Rock Band Network it "had no idea" that the platform would take off in the way that it did. "Even if we had been able to anticipate the level of enthusiasm, we certainly couldn't have predicted that the RBN authors would generate a body of work that so quickly eclipsed the official Harmonix output," the company said.

In fact, Rock Band Network authors have created 2,121 songs for the platform, which is just slightly above the 2,100 Harmonix-authored songs, which includes disc-based tracks.

So why is Harmonix taking the Rock Band Network down? The company explains that following the end of regular Rock Band DLC in April 2013, the Rock Band Network "has been plagued with technical issues," some of which were server-side problems at Harmonix, while others were "entirely outside of our control."

As a result, Harmonix has decided to instead dedicate its resources to its other in-development titles, including Fantasia: Music Evolved and the new Amplitude. "We're no longer able to operate Rock Band Network with the kind of consistency that it deserves," Harmonix explained.

What this means is Harmonix will no longer accept song submissions or release new content through the Rock Band Network. However, the songs previously released through the Rock Band Network will continue to be offered for sale.

"We are eternally grateful to all the creators, authors, testers, labels, bands, and fans that have supported Rock Band Network since its inception," Harmonix said. "The team here at Harmonix remains committed to exploring opportunities for user-generated content, as well as the ability to personalize your experience with our games. We can only hope that the next time we approach a similar initiative the community is as dedicated and enthusiastic as this community has been."

No new Rock Band games have been announced, but in April, Harmonix's CEO said the company has "grand plans" to revive the franchise for the current-generation of consoles. This may not happen anytime soon, however, as Harmonix made it clear in April that Rock Band 4 was not currently in development.

Battlefield Hardline's New Trailer Highlights Its Fun-Looking Car Chase Mode

Following its reveal in August, EA today has released a new trailer showcasing Battlefield Hardline's Hotwire multiplayer mode along with some new details on how these matches work.

As you might be able to infer from the video above, Hotwire is a vehicle-centric mode. Basically, marked cars will be scattered around the map, and by getting in and driving around in one, you'll cause the enemy team's allotment of lives--their tickets, in Battlefield lingo--to decline. (For whatever reason, you'll do this whether you play as the cops or the criminals.)

Simple as that might sound on the surface, there are added wrinkles to this, such as scoring points by taking your vehicle off jumps, setting up roadblocks, sabotaging vehicles, and fighting for control of key resources (namely, RPGs).

Other modes we've heard about or gotten to play include Rescue (cops try to rescue a hostage), Blood Money (cops and robbers each try to recover cash), and Heist (robbers try to destroy objectives and then escape with the cash inside).

Hardline, which has faced some criticism for appearing to some to be an expansion pack (as well as its focus on militarized police), was originally scheduled for release in just over a month. Following a delay, it will instead be released in early 2015, a move made to ensure it's as innovative as possible.

Final Fantasy XIII Trilogy Heading to PC Starting in October

The Final Fantasy XIII trilogy of games--that is, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII-2, and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII--is headed to PCs beginning next month.

First out of the gate will be XIII on October 9. It'll be released digitally through Steam and Square Enix's online store for $15.99. If you know you'll be picking it up through Steam, you can pre-purchase it prior to release and get a small 10 percent discount that brings its price down to $14.39.

There's no word on whether any improvements are being made for these PC releases, but XIII (and presumably the following two) will, at the very least, offer support for Steam trading cards.

Likewise, we don't yet have prices or release dates for XIII-2 or Lightning Returns; Square Enix will only say that all three will be out by next spring. This follows the company discussing its desire to release the franchise on PC earlier this year.

The XIII games are not considered by most to be the high point of the Final Fantasy series, but this does represent the first time they'll be made available on platforms other than Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

The Nightmare of P.T. Returns in This Silent Hills Trailer

Are you over P.T.? Does it still creep into the mind as you walk in the dark? Can you handle corridors again? Can you listen to the radio alone at night?

If the appalling, ghastly, oppressive terror of Kojima Productions' Playable Teaser is behind you, then I'm not sure whether I can honestly recommend this new Silent Hills trailer.

It features familiar claustrophobic hallways, this time riddled with creepy toys and ghouls who will probably leave a lasting mark on your memory. Don't say you weren't warned.

P.T. was voted GameSpot's Game of the Month in August, praised for its exceptional sense of timing and horror design. It's free to try now on PlayStation 4, and is a teaser for Kojima Productions' Silent Hills.

Hideo Kojima is said to be involved in the project in some capacity, along with Pan's Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro.

Minecraft PS4 Heads to Stores in October; Vita Details Coming Soon

PlayStation 4 owners who prefer to buy physical copies of their games rather than digital copies will soon be able to add Minecraft to their collection. Sony announced today that Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition is headed to retail in North America on October 7 for $19.99.

Coinciding with the retail version's release, a patch will be distributed on PSN on October 7 "to ensure you have the best Minecraft experience possible on the PS4," Sony says on the PlayStation Blog. This is said to be a "day one patch," which is a curious name for it considering Minecraft is already available as a downloadable game on PS4.

That version was released earlier this month, with Sony describing it today as having been a "successful launch." (You can pick that version up for only $5 if you own Minecraft on PS3.) That shouldn't come as much of a surprise, given the game's strong performance on every platform it comes to. Its first appearance on a PlayStation platform was last December, when it was released on PS3. Since then, it's been the best-selling PS3 game on the PlayStation Store every month in the United States.

Sony also today said it'll have more news (including cross-buy details with the PS3 version) "in a few weeks" regarding the PlayStation Vita version of Minecraft. Following Microsoft's acquisition of Minecraft maker Mojang, there was some question about what would happen with the Vita version, even though there were indications that it wouldn't be pulled from PlayStation or iOS platforms (despite being direct competitors with Microsoft hardware).

Xbox boss Phil Spencer today said he believes the Vita release should still happen. Given this new promise of more details from Sony, it seems to be indicating that nothing is amiss regarding the long-awaited handheld version.

PS3 Gets PlayStation Now Open Beta Today, More Games Coming to the Service

The PlayStation Now open beta is no longer exclusive to the PlayStation 4. Sony announced today that a trial period for the streaming service is available starting today on PlayStation 3 in the United States and Canada.

Gamers will see PS Now games, now numbering more than 150 in all, integrated in the PlayStation Store. In addition, Sony's John Koller writes on the PlayStation Blog that God of War: Ascension, Infamous, and Ultra Street Fighter IV are all "coming soon" to PS Now.

PS Now rentals are offered for a variety of prices that correspond to duration. In most cases, Sony says, you can rent a game for a week at the cost of about $1 per day. These prices are still in flux, as the service remains a beta.

"We are still in the early days of PS Now, but it's been great to hear from users that have been pleased with the service's performance," Koller says. "We want to thank everyone who has tried out PS Now and encourage everyone to check it out."

Koller explains that Sony is always listening to feedback about PS Now on PS3 and PS4 in an effort to "refine the service." PS Now is also coming to PlayStation Vita and some Bravia TV sets, though it's unclear when the service will roll out for those platforms.

Currently, Sony only offers PlayStation 3 games through PS Now, but the company is considering adding PS4, PS2, and original PlayStation games sometime in the future. Overall, Sony says PS Now is a "long-term journey" for the company.

Sony may not be the only major console player in the streaming space forever. The company's main competitor, Microsoft, is reportedly working on an Xbox streaming game service of its own.

Destiny Breaks Twitch Streaming Records

Bungie's recently released shooter Destiny is not only breaking sales records, but also streaming records. Publisher Activision announced today that, during Destiny's first week since launch, more people watched streams of the game on Twitch than any other console game released so far in 2014.

"To date, Destiny is the biggest console game launch of the year on Twitch," Twitch marketing executive Matthew DiPietro said in a statement. "Our passionate community of broadcasters attracted more than 5 million unique viewers in the first week."

Destiny-related content attracted 20 million views on Twitch during the game's launch week, and fans watched almost 240 million minutes of gameplay during that time. Bungie community manager David Dague said in another statement that seeing Destiny players broadcast their experiences live on Twitch "has been nothing short of amazing."

Destiny launched on Tuesday, September 9, for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. Over the course of the game's first five days on the market, Destiny drove $325 million in revenue. By comparison, last year's Grand Theft Auto V made $800 million on its first day and $1 billion in three days. Of course, Destiny is a brand-new series while Grand Theft Auto V was the latest installment in a series that's been around since the 1990s.

According to Activision, Destiny's release last week represented the "biggest new video game franchise launch in history." This year's other major new IP launch was Ubisoft's open-world game Watch Dogs, which was released in May. That game saw strong sales at launch, but it appears Destiny outperformed it.

Minecraft 'Should' Ship On PS Vita, Says Microsoft Exec

Following the big news on Monday that Microsoft had acquired the Minecraft franchise in a $2.5 billion deal, the company said it plans to "continue to make Minecraft available" across non-Microsoft platforms like iOS, Android, and PlayStation, as well as Xbox and PC, of course.

But what about the upcoming PlayStation Vita version, which is the only version of the game announced for a major platform but still to be released? Should gamers still expect that version to be released? One fan asked Xbox boss Phil Spencer that very question on Twitter, and the Microsoft executive said the game "should" come to the platform, though he didn't confirm it.

In its own post about selling to Microsoft, Mojang wrote that "there's no reason for the development, sales, and support of the PC/Mac, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, Vita, iOS, and Android versions to stop." However, the company cautioned that "Microsoft can't make decisions for other companies or predict the choices that they might make in the future."

The Microsoft-Mojang deal was only announced Monday, and like Spencer said, it has not yet closed. Pending standard closing conditions and a possible regulatory review, Microsoft's acquisition of Mojang is expected to close in "late 2014." Until then, we may not get any further clarification about the future of Minecraft and how Microsoft will treat versions of the game for competing platforms.

In the meantime, Minecraft is playable on PS Vita through Remote Play. The standalone PS Vita version is expected to launch sometime before the end of the year.

Harmonix Hasn't Given Up on Rock Band -- What Should a New Game Look Like?

Though Harmonix is no longer releasing Rock Band DLC and has shut down the community-focused Rock Band Network, that doesn't mean the studio is leaving the franchise behind entirely. Writing on its website, Harmonix said the Rock Band series remains close to the studio's heart, and explained that the company is always thinking about the franchise's future.

"Rock Band remains a huge part of the culture here at Harmonix, and there's not a day that goes by where someone in the office isn't talking about Rock Band, or planning for the future of the franchise," the company said.

During PAX East in April, Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos said the studio had "grand plans" to revive the Rock Band series for current-generation consoles. Just a day later, however, Harmonix made it clear that we're not likely to see another game in the series anytime soon.

The most recent Rock Band title was 2012's Rock Band Blitz, a downloadable game for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Rock Band 3, released in 2010, is the most recent entry in the core series.

Harmonix is currently working on a number of projects, including Fantasia: Music Evolved for Xbox 360 and Xbox One, a new Amplitude title for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, and various PC titles, including A City Sleeps and Chroma. In addition, just this week, Harmonix signed a publishing deal with indie publisher Tilting Point for new, music-based mobile games. On top of that, the developer recently announced Harmonix VR, a music project for Samsung Gear VR.

What would you like to see from a new Rock Band game? Let us know in the comments below.

Exclusive Bayonetta 2 First Print Edition Coming to Europe

Bayonetta 2's UK release date will fall on October 24, Nintendo has announced, meaning the game will launch in Europe on the same day as the US.

The corporation has also revealed that it will ship three separate editions of the game -- one of which is exclusive to Europe.

Most basic of these three is the solus Bayonetta 2 -- a standalone copy of Platinum Games' hack-and-slash action title. This version will cost around £30, but fans can pay about £10 more for the Bayonetta 2 Double Pack, which includes a remastered Wii U edition of the original Bayonetta.

Bayonetta 2 First Print Edition is exclusive to Europe

Meanwhile, a limited Bayonetta First Print Edition will bundle both games with an art book made to resemble the Hierarchy of Laguna. The leather hardback cover features an embossed logo, and the art book itself is attached to the case's housing. Only 15,000 copies are available, with some UK retailers fixing it with a £60 price tag.

A video showcasing the First Print Edition can be found above. The game's latest trailer is below.

In the US, Bayonetta 2 will cost $59.99 at retail (which includes both Bayonetta 2 and the original Bayonetta).

Fans can also purchase the games individually from the Nintendo eShop. When bought together online, Nintendo calculates a discount that lowers the price for both to $59.98.

On Thursday, Nintendo revealed another in-game costume for Bayonetta 2's eponymous heroine, this time themed on the Star Fox series. The outfit joins the previously announced Princess Peach, Samus Aran (Metroid), and Link attire announced earlier this year.

This Is What Destiny Looks Like Running on PlayStation Vita

Ahead of Destiny's much-anticipated release next week, Sony has published a video showing off how the game runs on PlayStation Vita using Remote Play. According to Sony, developer Bungie "optimized" Destiny's controls for Remote Play, including touch-screen controls for lobbing grenades.

Check out the video above to see Destiny running on PlayStation Vita. Sony has also provided a diagram of the Destiny PS Vita control scheme, which you can see below.

Click for a full-size view Remote Play for Destiny was a popular feature during the game's beta this summer, according to PlayStation social media manager Sid Shuman. He writes on the PlayStation Blog that Destiny was the number one overall PlayStation 4 Remote Play game during the entire month of July.

Destiny launches September 9 for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. Though publisher Activision describes the PC as a "natural fit" for Destiny, the game is not coming to that platform, at least not at launch. GameSpot will have much more on Destiny next week. For now, check out GameSpot's previous Destiny coverage.

Dota 2 4th September Patch – Content Analysis

At long last Dota 2 welcomes its most notoriously explosive personalities: Techies. Now every forest trail, every escape route, and every creep camp can become your most devilish trap. Of course, if your foe steps lightly (or has a Gem of True Sight, or upgraded their Necronomicon) they might dodge your well-placed mines, avoid your ensnaring stasis traps, and sidestep your hidden remote explosives. But even when they're finally face-to-face with the giggling trio, they'll still need to contend with your deadly suicide detonation. When Techies are around, nowhere is safe!

"In the storied saga of Dredger's Bight, no business has ever been more reviled than Techies Demolitions. Then again, Dredger's Bight no longer exists. Nor does Toterin. Or even Trapper Town. In fact, if one were to track the history of Techies Demolitions they might notice that shortly after Techies appear, towns tend to disappear.

Like every inevitable disaster surrounding Techies, the obliteration of Dredger's Bight began with an invention. Tasked with designing a safer way of detonating explosives in the mines beneath the city, pyrotechnic prodigies Squee, Spleen, and Spoon developed their most outlandish creation yet: a button which, when pressed, would trigger a distant device to spark a fuse.

Overeager to test their invention, the trio stuffed barrel after barrel with flamesalt explosives, piling every corner of their tiny workshop high with the newly developed remote bombs. From this stockpile they plucked a single payload, burying it in a far away field. As they cowered in a ditch, Spleen pressed the detonator button. Yet after a moment, nothing happened. Confused, he stood up, pressing his button again and again until, finally, an explosion tore a hole in the field. Elated, Squee and Spleen turned toward home just as a massive wave of sound and force arrived to knock them over.

Bewildered, their ears ringing from the unexpected blast, they gathered in the dingy miasma to see a smoking ruin where their workshop once stood. Chunks of wood and stone continued to fall as the yawning crater before them slowly deepened into an expanding pit. The whole of Dredger's Bight shuddered, and then gradually started to slide into the mines below as its panicked residents fled.

Sitting at the edge of their sinking home they grinned and giggled, as giddy at the possibilities as they were oblivious to the scorn of their former neighbors. They wondered only one thing: how could they trigger an even bigger blast?"

Since the release of Techies on the test client he has now been given a new "Minefield Sign" ability which lets him plant a warning sign every 120 seconds. Only one sign can exist at a time.

The issues regarding the cigar on the front of his model have now been fixed since the test client release.

"Techies Demolitions proudly unveiled their latest commission: The Swine, the most powerful cannon ever designed. Yet during its first frantic use aboard a homebound galley, the Swine's awesome blast tore its host ship asunder, rocketing the cannon itself backwards toward the shore. It was found days later, deeply embedded in a rocky cliffside just below its makers' workshop."

The Techies Arcana has been updated with a custom version of the Minefield Sign since his test client release.

A number of the Arcana particle effects have also been updated and a kill counter will now be displayed at the top of the screen that keeps track of the suicide kills made.

The Suicide Kills Inscribed Gem and Explosive Burst Prismatic Gem are contained in the cannon.

The Prismatic Gem will control the overall base effect's colour which is shown off here against the two Svens on the right.

The rest of the gems are contained in the remote mine.

"It's one thing to face an enemy. It's quite another to face Techies. If you purchased this year's Compendium for The International, you'll be granted a special taunt for the troublesome trio. Once equipped, you're a button press away from laughing at your enemies. Want to rub it in even further? Each time you kill a foe, they'll get a special view of Techies' giggling faces."

The taunt has two different versions, a standard one and one for the Arcana. Both have different particle effects.

If a team loses all 40 of their heroes, or their Ancient falls, the match is over. Ready to fight what you can't predict?"

"Introducing the Gallery of Triumphs! Now whenever you accomplish certain feats or complete challenges in Dota 2, you'll be awarded a trophy you can show off in your Dota profile. Finish the All-Hero Challenge to earn a new trophy to display in your Gallery."

A random hero will be assigned for you to use in your next match up, complete the all-hero challenge and earn a trophy.

Predict correctly to earn enough points, and you'll find a new trophy for your Gallery."

When equipped you will see an action item on your UI that can be used before the horn blows. The action will disappear after that stage.

"The enemy flees while one, two, three heroes fall before you. Triple Kill! Those who purchased this year's Compendium for The International will be able to enjoy a new type of multi-kill banner effect that celebrates their most deadly plays. Preview

Below you can see a preview of the work in progress "Team Fight Recap" system.

The way the team fight works is that each column contains the stats from that hero for that category.

From this example we can see that Vengeful Spirit and Nature's Prophet both died on Radiant however the Nature's Prophet opted to buyback.

We can also see that some heroes like Razor were able to use an ability more than once.

The items used section is still work in progress.

Below that you will be able to also see the difference in gold between the two teams for that fight. This function is also not working yet.

The XP and Damage done charts continue to follow the form of hero columns allowing you to quickly see who was the highest damage dealer in the team and how the XP was spread across the team.

Both of these unreleased items are tagged as promo and will most likely be used in an upcoming Perfect World promotion.

The Beyond The Summit HUD Skin is now in the files.

No model or textures in the files. Just custom icons and a loading screen.

This set will be the one of the rare additional bonus items from the chest.

The rest of this set is missing from the files with the exception of his Demon Form and loading screen. Particle effects are place holders.

Also includes a new ambient particle effect.

Also includes a Dire version of the courier.

Both of these unreleased Arcanas are very much work in progress.
