Microsoft to Launch Smartwatch Very Soon - Report

Microsoft will launch its own smartwatch in the next couple of weeks, according to a new report from Forbes, which cites unspecified sources who are reportedly "close to the project."

The gadget will reportedly have health-monitoring capabilities such as a heart rate tracker. In addition, it is said to work across different mobile platforms, and you apparently won't have to charge it very often. Forbes reports that a single charge will last for more than two days of "regular use."

It remains unclear what Microsoft's rumored smartwatch will be called or what it will cost. In addition, there was no mention in Forbes' report today about Microsoft's smartwatch featuring any compatibility with Xbox 360 or Xbox One--or gaming at all, for that matter.

This is not the first time we've heard about a new smartwatch from Microsoft. Back in April 2013, The Verge reported that Microsoft's Xbox team was testing such a device, and had been for about a year at the time. The device is said to feature a 1.5" touch-enabled screen.

If Microsoft is in fact working on a smartwatch, it won't be the first time the company has done so. Microsoft launched a range of SPOT smartwatches in 2004 that used radio signals to pull in news, weather forecasts, and stock quotes. These devices were discontinued in 2008.

In September, iPhone and iPad company Apple announced the $350 Apple Watch, a sleek-looking device that won't be released until 2015. If Forbes' report is accurate, Microsoft's smartwatch will launch in the lead-up to the busy holiday shopping season.

Microsoft was not immediately available to comment when approached by GameSpot sister site CNET. For more on Microsoft's wearable endeavors, be sure to read CNET's full coverage.

Alien: Isolation Getting Three New Maps, Another Playable Character Next Week

Sega announced today that the first of five Alien: Isolation post-release expansions, Corporate Lockdown, will be released on October 28. It features three "challenging and terrifying" maps for Isolation's Survivor Mode, and will sell for $8. It's included with the $30 Isolation DLC pass.

The three new maps included with Corporate Lockdown are Severance, Scorched Earth, and Loose Ends. The expansion also marks the arrival of Gauntlet Mode, a new mode that challenges players to complete all three maps back-to-back without dying once.

A new playable character, Seegson Executive Ransome, is also featured in Corporate Lockdown.

The next four Isolation DLC packs are called Trauma, Safe Haven, Lost Contact, and The Trigger. Each features a new playable character, as well as new maps and modes. Specific release dates for those expansions were not announced, but Sega says all should arrive by March 2015.

For more on Isolation, check out GameSpot's review and what other critics are saying.

Rock Band 4 Could Still Happen -- What Would You Like to See?

Though Rock Band 4 is not currently in development, developer Harmonix reminds gamers in a new interview that it controls the future direction of the series by virtue of owning the IP, and teased that the music game franchise will return "when the time is right."

In an interview with Forbes, Harmonix PR boss Nick Chester said he is often asked, "Where is Rock Band 4?" and "When are you bringing it back?" These questions have even come from GameStop managers, he said, which might suggest that, "If people are hearing that at retail, maybe there's something going on. Maybe people are ready for it again."

If Harmonix were to make another Rock Band, fans would certainly hope that their existing Rock Band plastic instruments would be compatible with the new game. Though there could be compatibility issues given the jump from last-generation consoles to current-generation machines, Chester said Harmonix would do "everything in our power" to make it work.

Also in the interview, Chester reveals that "hundreds of thousands" of people still play Rock Band games every month. This is despite the fact that Harmonix has stopped supporting the most recent core game, Rock Band 3, with new DLC and even pulled the plug on the Rock Band Network.

"We love Rock Band, it's in the company's DNA," Chester said. "We own the IP. And when the time's right we will absolutely come back to it. There's a whole bunch of factors to take into consideration before jumping in that pool again, but there's a desire for it, absolutely."

The most recent Rock Band game was Rock Band Blitz, which was released in 2012 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. At PAX East in April, Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos teased that the studio had "grand plans" to revive the Rock Band series for current-generation consoles. However, the company quickly clarified that it only had ideas for a new game, pointing out that Rock Band 4 was not actually in the works.

For its part, Activision has also talked about bringing the Guitar Hero franchise back someday.

Though Harmonix isn't making a new Rock Band game right away, the studio is certainly keeping busy. Tomorrow, Harmonix will release Fantasia: Music Evolved for Xbox 360 and Xbox One, while the studio continues to work on a new Amplitude game for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. In addition, Harmonix's free-to-play PC shooter called Chroma remains in development, and the studio recently signed a publishing deal with indie publisher Tilting Point for new, music-based mobile games. On top of that, there is Harmonix VR, a music project for Samsung Gear VR.

What would you like to see from a new Rock Band game? Let us know in the comments.

Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor Gets Free DLC: Power of Shadow

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has released free DLC for Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor available today that lets players take control of a new character.

You can now download the The Power of Shadow bundle, which allows you to take on the appearance of Sauron's servant, the Black Hand. The new playable character, who's an antagonist in the regular game, comes with three new Epic Runes that grant you new abilities.

The One with Nature Rune makes you immune to poison attacks from Ukuk Captains or Ghuls. The Ascendant Rune give you double focus time for slow motion ranged combat. The Elven Grace Rune increases defense, which halves the damage of enemy strikes.Last week, the game was updated with a free photo mode, which allows you to remove the UI from the screen, capture an image, and tweak various settings--depth of field, tilt, field of view, etc.

Shadow of Mordor was released in September to a positive reception on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, and you can read our review here. The game is slated to release on Xbox 360 and PS3 on November 18,

Indie First-Person Shooter Removed From Steam After Developer Threatens Gabe Newell

Indie game Paranautical Activity has been taken down from Steam following the posting of death threats addressed at Valve's Gabe Newell from developer Mike Maulbeck. As reported by Player Attack, Maulbeck's game was initially highlighted on a Steam store segment featuring Halloween-themed games. Paranautical Activity was mistakenly captioned as an Early Access title despite being completed, to which Maulbeck tweeted the following:

Maulbeck's tweets culminated with a threat stating that he was "going to kill gabe newell."

Paranautical Activity was removed from Steam following the posting of Maulbeck's tweets. "We have removed the game’s sales page and ceased relations with the developer after he threatened to kill one of our employees," a Valve spokeperson told Kotaku.

This would not be the first time a game has been pulled from Steam. Earlier this year Valve mysteriously pulled The Stomping Land from Steam Early Access, which received more than $100,000 through Kickstarter. Earth: Year 2066 was pulled and refunds offered following fans' concerns on the quality of the game.

Upcoming NBA Live 15 Demo Will Let You Compare It to NBA 2K15

Considering how EA's recent NBA games have turned out, and the fact that this year's was delayed by three weeks, there is understandably some concern over whether NBA Live 15 will turn out any good. Fortunately, EA isn't shying away from allowing people to try the game without a purchase, as it today announced plans for an early access trial and a demo.

Prior to Live 15's launch next week, EA Access members will get their usual early access to the game on October 23, providing them with six hours to play all aspects of the game. If you try out the game this way and then decide to buy the full game, you'll be able to transfer all of your progress. This same trial will be available to non-members on Xbox One on October 28, the same day the game launches.

PS4 owners will get a more traditional demo on October 28. You'll be limited to a head-to-head matchup between Oklahoma City and Cleveland with five-minute quarters and an NBA Finals-style atmosphere, which is pretty standard fare for a sports game demo. There will also be a tutorial (the "Adidas Learn Live Tutorial," specifically) featuring cover star Damian Lillard.

We learned this week that, even before EA is able to see how well Live 15 sells, the series is "guaranteed" to continue. That's good news for Live fans, as a strong sales performance may be tough, given that the latest NBA 2K game (which typically outsells Live anyway) has already been available for several weeks.

Pick Up a PS4 for $360 Right Now

Online retailer NewEgg is currently selling PlayStation 4s on auction site eBay for $360, representing a nice savings of $40 over the console's normal $400 asking price. Shipping is free.

According to the page, only a "limited quantity" of PS4 units at the discounted price are available. More than 400 have been sold since the promotion went live. The deal ends on Monday, October 27, or presumably when stock runs out.

NewEgg's special PS4 deal is for the standard black console, not the white Destiny bundle. You're buying a brand-new PS4, which comes with the system, a DualShock 4 controller, an HDMI cable, a mono headset, and all power and charging cables.

The PS4 celebrates its first birthday next month. The system has sold more than 10 million systems worldwide as of August, which is beyond Sony's expectations for the console. Most recently, the NPD Group announced last week that the PS4 maintained its lead over the Xbox One in the United States during September.

Metallica Performing At BlizzCon

American rock band Metallica will perform at BlizzCon 2014 next month, Blizzard Entertainment announced today. The band will perform the Saturday evening concert, taking place November 8.

If you can't attend BlizzCon 2014 in person (tickets are sold out), Metallica's performance will be streamed live for BlizzCon virtual ticket holders. Those are on sale now for $40.

"We're thrilled to have Metallica blowing out our speakers at BlizzCon this year," Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime said in a statement. "After two full days of epic gaming and intense eSports action, an earth-shaking concert is the perfect sendoff for everyone at the show and watching from home."

Last year's musical act was Blink 182. Other bands that have performed at BlizzCon in previous years include The Offspring, Foo Fighters, Ozzy Osbourne, and Tenacious D, among others.

BlizzCon 2014, a celebration of World of Warcraft, Diablo, StarCraft, and other Blizzard franchises, takes place November 7-8 at the Anaheim Convention Center. This year's event will feature panel presentations, tournaments, contests, and hands-on time with Blizzard games.

More details about BlizzCon 2014, including a full programming schedule, will be announced ahead of the show next month. Check back with GameSpot for more.

Apple Sold 39 Million iPhones, 12 Million iPads In Last Three Months

During the three-month period ended September 27, Apple sold more than 39 million total iPhones and 12 million iPads, helping the tech giant record year-over-year increases for revenue and profit. Overall, Apple posted revenue of $42.1 billion (up from $37.5 billion) and a net profit of $8.5 billion (up from $7.5 billion) during the quarter. 60 percent of sales came from outside of the United States.

"Our fiscal 2014 was one for the record books, including the biggest iPhone launch ever with iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus," Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a statement. The new iPhones launched in late September, and sold a record 10 million units during their first weekend.

The iPhone's 39.3 million units sold during the quarter represents an increase from the 35.2 million sold this quarter last year. iPad sales, however, declined year-over-year. The 12.3 million figure is down by 1 million compared to last year's 13.3 million. During a post-earnings investor call, Cook addressed this (via Gizmodo).

"What you do see is that people hold onto their iPad longer than they do a phone," he said. "Because we've only been in this business for four years, we don't know what the upgrade cycle will be for people."

Just last week, Apple announced new iPads. You can read more about them here.

Finally, Apple sold 5.5 million Mac computers during the quarter, representing an increase over the 4.4 million sold last year. iPod sales fell, dropping from 2.9 million last year to 2.6 million this year.

How to Get a Pokemon Alpha Sapphire/Omega Ruby Demo Code

The playable demo of Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire arrives Tuesday, October 21, but it will--for whatever reason--not be freely available on the 3DS eShop. To download it, you'll need to first obtain a code to download this "Special Demo Version" of the game through one of several ways.

Some of these methods guarantee you a code (provided supplies last), like buying certain games on the eShop, while others are pretty much banking on luck. Curiously for a demo of a pair of games that launch in November, some of these options won't present themselves until November (or December, in one case).

Courtesy of Nintendo's website, here are your six ways of securing a code:

Codes will be distributed at select cinema locations nationwide from Nov. 7-Nov. 13 (while supplies last).Check with your local retailer during the holidays to find out about special demo code giveaways (while supplies last).Get a code with your purchase of the new Pokemon Art Academy game (out Oct. 24) when you buy from Nintendo eShop on your Nintendo 3DS or 2DS system. You'll also get a code with your purchase of one of two classic Pokemon games coming to the Virtual Console service on Nintendo eShop: the Pokemon Puzzle Challenge game (out Nov. 6) or the Pokemon Trading Card Game (out Nov. 13). You'll find your free demo code on your eShop receipt (download codes available while supplies last).Codes will be emailed the week of Oct. 31 to select Nintendo customers with Nintendo Network IDs who have signed up to receive promotional emails from Nintendo.Codes will also be distributed during the holiday mall tour from Nov. 24-Dec. 21 at 16 different locations throughout the nation. Talk to a staff member to try out Pokemon Omega Ruby, Pokemon Alpha Sapphire or any of the featured Nintendo 3DS games to receive two codes—one for you, and one for a friend (while supplies last). Unfortunately, there weren't any specifics offered regarding which movie theaters or retailers would offer the demo codes. The company said it would announce locations for the mall tour "soon."

We do know that demo players will get access to "exclusive scenarios in the Hoenn region," the setting for Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire and their respective remakes. Certain progress can be transferred from the demo version to the full games, launching November 21. This includes certain items and a Mega-Evolved version of a "familiar" Pokemon.

Rainbow Six Siege Features Input from Real-World Special Ops Soldiers

In a bid to bolster the authenticity of 2015's Rainbow Six Siege, developer Ubisoft Montreal sought help from real-world special operations soldiers. The developer wrote on its blog that it invited GIGN operators to its office to play Siege to help verify that it was approaching the game in a way that would accurately reflect how actual soldiers go about rescuing hostages.

"While a lot of people on our team are veteran FPS developers, at the end of the day we're just gamers and consulting with the real operators helps make sure that we're doing it right," Ubisoft said. "We get to ask them a lot of questions and get great feedback. Interestingly enough, they told us that if given a choice to protect a teammate or a civilian, the GIGN operator would protect the civilian. That's some serious dedication to preserving life and we wanted to emulate that kind of passionate commitment in the game."

GIGN is a division of the French Armed Forces that specializes in hostage rescues. Depictions of GIGN soldiers have appeared in numerous game franchises, including Counter-Strike, SOCOM, and Call of Duty.

In Siege's Hostage Rescue mode, one team of defenders is holed up in a building with a hostage in their possession. The other team must locate and extract the hostage (in a certain amount of time) or kill all enemy players to end the round.

Game designer Chris Lee said the fact that hostages can take damage and die means players must plan their moves with precision.

"You have to be careful when trying to breach into the area where the hostage is," he said. "You can't just throw a frag or any explosives near the hostage without a second thought. You have to be very careful where you aim your weapon as well. It greatly increases the tension around the hostage, which differentiates it from other types of objectives."

Once you locate the hostage, one player on your team will need to escort him or her to the safety zone. The player who is doing the escorting will be more vulnerable, in that they move slower and can only use a pistol. Ubisoft said communication and teamwork will become "paramount" at this stage to complete the objective.

"This stage in particular can be one of the most anxious parts of the whole round," the developer explained.

For more on Siege--which will run at 60fps across Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC--check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

Watch John Cena Recite a Poem in WWE 2K15's New TV Spot

If you missed last night's episode of Monday Night Raw (or you simply tune out when matches are over to avoid being beaten over the head with social media and WWE Network promotion), you missed the debut of a new WWE 2K15 TV spot. Should you be hoping to see a lot of gameplay, it didn't offer much, but if you've ever wanted to hear John Cena's dramatic reading of a poem, it's your lucky day.

Specifically, Cena reads Dylan Thomas' "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night" while we see clips of Cena, Hulk Hogan, Bray Wyatt, Antonio Cesaro, and Roman Reigns doing things like training and sitting in a boat.

There's very little wrestling to be seen for a minute-long advertisement of a wrestling video game, but there are brief cuts to gameplay. We see Randy Orton delivering an RKO, Chris Jericho mid-Lionsault, and Bray Wyatt doing his best impression of a Deadly Premonition enemy.

We got our first look at a proper gameplay trailer of 2K15 last month. What we've seen of the game so far looks very impressive, making it all the more unfortunate that the best-looking versions of the game (Xbox One and PS4) were delayed until November 18. The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions land one week from today, on October 28.

Civilization: Beyond Earth Coming to Mac and Linux This Holiday

The latest Sid Meier game, Civilization: Beyond Earth, launches later this week exclusively for PC. Mac and Linux players won't get to play right out of the gate, but Aspyr Media announced today that Beyond Earth will be available for those platforms through Steam and on Apple's Mac App Store sometime "this holiday season."

Mac and Linux players can preorder a Steam code for Beyond Earth today through Aspyr's GameAgent.com. Preordering will net you the Exoplanets Map Pack as a free bonus.

According to Aspyr, a prolific developer of Mac games, the Mac and Linux versions of Beyond Earth will "retain the same features and gameplay as the Windows PC version, while also offering cross-platform multiplayer via Steam."

You can follow Aspyr's progress on the Mac and Linux versions of Beyond Earth through a special "Dev Diary" series at blog.gameagent.com.

This is not the first time Aspyr Media has teamed up with Firaxis Games and 2K to bring a Sid Meier game to Mac. The developer was also behind the Mac versions of Civilization III, IV , and V.

For more on Beyond Earth, be sure to watch the game's impressive intro cinematic (above), and then check out our previous coverage of the upcoming strategy game. Just yesterday, 2K announced that the Windows PC version is now available to pre-load, and that you can play Civilization V for free until October 23.

Feeling generous? Dying Light developer Techland has announced a special bundle for the upcoming game that lets you buy four copies of the game for the price of three on Steam. You can then gift the other three copies to friends--earning yourself some serious brownie points.

Amazing-Looking RTS Project Human Resources Canceled by Developers

If you were won over by the unique art style of Human Resources, a game just announced earlier this month, you may be in for some disappointment. The Kickstarter has been canceled by the developers citing that they anticipate coming up "woefully short" of the $1.4 million they were hoping to raise.

In a note to backers, lead designer John Comes wrote, "The time has come to shut down the Kickstarter for Human Resources. Every Kickstarter prediction model is showing that we will come up woefully short of our goal. Running a Kickstarter is a full-time job for several people. As a small indie, we can't continue spending time and money focusing on a project that won't get funded. We simply don't have the human resources. #seewhatididthere."

The project was originally slated to complete funding by November 4.

But that doesn't mean all hope is lost for the project. Comes notes that they plan to "regroup and figure out what to do next." However, he also writes, "One thing is for sure, Human Resources, as pitched in this Kickstarter, is over. But we adore the world of Human Resources and will endeavor to do what we can to bring it to life in some form."

You have a few options if you want to keep up with what developer Uber has in store next. According to Comes, you can follow updates on the developer's (Uber) website, John's Twitter, Nate's Twitter, and Uber's Twitter.

Play Civ 5 for Free While Preloading Civilization: Beyond Earth

The latest game in the Civilization series, Civilization: Beyond Earth, launches later this week. Preloading has begun, but one thing you may want to download first is Civilization V, which you can play for free from now until Thursday.

Anyone with a Steam account can now download Civ V for free and play it until Thursday, October 23 at 10 am Pacific. That's hardly enough time to spend with a game that can easily eat up hundreds of hours of your life, but it's a good way to kill time between now and Beyond Earth's release this Friday, October 24.

If you've already pre-purchased Beyond Earth on Steam, you can begin preloading the game now so that it's ready to go as soon as possible on Friday. The exact times for when it will unlock for Steam buyers haven't yet been announced, but 2K says it'll be sharing those "soon" for everyone around the world.

You can still pre-purchase Beyond Earth before Friday to get the free Exoplanets Map Pack, which consists of six bonus custom maps. For more on Beyond Earth, check out our latest preview, as well as our look at multiplayer in the video above.

PSN Halloween Sale Discounts Resident Evil, Dead Space, and Castlevania

With Halloween less than two weeks away, Sony is kicking off a Halloween-themed sale on the PlayStation Store today that discounts a variety of games for PS3, PS4, PSP, and PS Vita.

Everyone can receive the basic sale prices on these games, though if you're a PlayStation Plus member, you'll save even more. The sale is split across two weeks; some games will go on sale for one week beginning today, with others being discounted next Tuesday, October 28.

Some of these games are the scary sort, like Outlast and Fatal Frame, while others simply contain zombies or other marginally Halloween-y things, like Plants vs. Zombies and Guacamelee.

This week with Plus, you're looking at getting Dead Space 2 for $4, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare for $15 (PS3) or $20 (PS4), and the first three Fatal Frame games on PS3 for $5 each. Next week things get even better, with Plus members getting Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for $4, Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare (with its very entertaining co-op mode) for $7, and Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack for $3.

Amusingly, the promotional image for the sale (right) appears to have the same font as upcoming Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive--something that the game's Twitter account made note of.

Check out the full list of sale prices below.

Xbox One Digital TV Tuner Now Available in UK

Microsoft has launched its digital TV Tuner for Xbox One across the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.

The miniature peripheral receives TV signals from a coaxial cable (the old-fashioned wires used to air free terrestrial TV) and feeds that into the Xbox One via USB connection, though the console will need to be powered on in order to watch it.

The Xbox One Digital TV Tuner costs £25 in the UK

The tuner adds several key features to the traditional Freeview experience. First, Live Pause, which allows users to freeze live TV for up to thirty minutes, as well as rewind and fast-forward footage. Owners can play their games while Live Pause is activated too.

Second, the OneGuide offers a basic panel of TV listings to peruse with either the controller or Kinect (although, how effective voice commands are remains to be seen). The OneGuide is available either as a full-screen menu or an in-picture window, the latter of which allows users to browse other channels while watching one station.

Third, the peripheral uses SmartGlass to stream video from the Xbox One to connected devices on a user's home network. This can also be done while playing games on the Xbox One, with television being processed in the background. (At the time of going to press, connected devices included Windows phones and tablets, as well as iOS devices, with Android support "coming soon").

As well as this, users can watch TV via Snap Mode, which fixes a small picture in a column on the right-hand-side of the screen while something else is displayed in the main picture.

The TV Tuner arrives nearly a full year after the Xbox One's UK launch. The peripheral costs £25.

Microsoft CEO: We Don't Have a Pay Gap Between Men and Women

In the wake of his controversial comments about women, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella now says there is no pay gap between men and women at Microsoft. In an interview with MSNBC, Nadella said men and women are paid equally at Microsoft with only around a .5 percent difference in salaries on a global basis.

This data point increases in the United States, where women earned 99.7 percent of what their male counterparts made during the latest reporting period, provided they held the same role or title, of course. "So it's different than what perhaps is sort of normally felt across all industries," Nadella said.

Though Nadella said he is proud of the accomplishment, he made it clear that there is more work to be done at Microsoft to foster a more diverse employee workforce.

"The real issue is do we have enough people of different ethnicity and women in those levels? Do we have them in our corporate vice president ranks? Are we promoting them as vigorously as we are?" he said. Nadella added that he will "go to work" on these issues and others.

Going forward, Nadella said his two guiding principles will be establishing Microsoft as a company that delivers "equal pay for equal work" and "equal opportunity for equal work."

Nadella's controversial comments about women in the workforce date back to early October. During a presentation this month at the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing event, Nadella was asked what advice he would give to women who felt uncomfortable seeking a raise. He said: "It's not really about asking for the raise, but knowing and having faith that the system will actually give you the right raises as you go along." Nadella went on to say that not asking for a raise is "good karma" that would eventually lead a manager to see that the employee is trustworthy and capable of taking on more responsibility.

Nadella faced immediate backlash over these comments, and he quickly responded by saying that he was "completely wrong." He added that, "If you think you deserve a raise, you should just ask."

Microsoft released an internal diversity report earlier this month, showing that 29 percent of the company's global workforce are women, which represents a 5 percent year-over-year increase.

Nadella was named Microsoft CEO in February, becoming the company's third chief executive. He follows in the footsteps of Microsoft icons Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer.

Xbox One Custom Backgrounds Coming via November Update

Microsoft has outlined numerous improvements, additions and changes coming to Xbox One via its monthly system update.

The main attraction for November is the new personalisation features, which allow users to create a customised background. The corporation adds that this was the "number one requested feature" from fans.

This comes weeks after the Xbox head, Phil Spencer, pledged to add custom theme support to Xbox One systems. Though the new update is a stepping-stone on that path, Microsoft said that "more customisation options" would arrive later. See directly below for a trio of preview images:

Gamers who have enlisted with the Xbox One preview program should be able to access the update now.

Other additions to the November update include the option to attach a "flaunt reel" to your profile. Users can display six video snippets of their gaming feats, which others can watch when browsing profiles.

Further to this, and in what could be a coup for Microsoft as it competes with Sony for relevance on social media, the Xbox One can now publish game clips directly to Twitter. In addition, Microsoft has applied a trending algorithm to its TV guide.

The system update will launch at some stage in November. A full breakdown of updates, written by Microsoft, is published below, while a video walkthrough is available in the video above.

Donations Pour in After Pro-Gamer Dies During Tournament

The tight-knit fighting game community has launched a donations campaign for the family of Terrance Moore, the Killer Instinct pro who passed away last Thursday in the middle of a live-streamed games tournament.

Moore, known among friends and competitors as "PushaTee", was said to have fallen unconscious after his play session at a Super Arcade tournament on October 16. Paramedics were called in but pronounced Moore dead after rushing him to hospital.

His passing has rocked the fighting game community, with an outpouring of tributes published. Fighting game tournament announcer James Chen, a prominent figure within the community, wrote on Twitter: "Another warrior in our family has left us. Thoughts go out to @pushatee22's family and friends. A moment of silence for our fallen comrade."

A YouTuber by the name of "MrGrimmmz", meanwhile, has helped launch a donations campaign for Moore's family with an emotional video tribute (above).

That campaign, which has gained attention on Reddit, has already rocketed past its funding goal of $2,900. At the time of going to press, the community has raised $9,080 with 11 days of funding remaining.

Moore is survived by his wife and two children.

Dead Rising Movie Turns to a Daily Show Veteran for Its Frank West

Rob Riggle Not long it was teased that the Dead Rising movie might include an appearance by series mainstay Frank West, Legendary Pictures has announced comedian Rob Riggle will play the role of West in the film.

Legendary today announced four additions to the cast of Dead Rising: Watchtower today, the most notable of which is Riggle. The former Daily Show correspondent (and US Marine Corps Reserve officer) has appeared in a number of movies and TV shows, ranging from 21 Jump Street to Arrested Development.

Frank West The other new cast members include Harley Morenstein (best known for his work on YouTube channel Epic Meal Time), Keegan Connor Tracey (Bates Motel, Final Destination 2), and Aleks Paunovic (This Means War). Paunovic plays biker gang leader Logan; Morenstein plays Pyro, Logan's second-in-command; and Tracey plays a journalist named Jordan.

Other, previously announced actors include Dennis Haysbert, Jesse Metcalfe, Virginia Madsen, and Meghan Ory.

Today's announcement also offered a brief outline of the story, which centers around--what else--a zombie outbreak. When the government's vaccine fails, the four lead characters try to avoid becoming infected while investigating the outbreak, which may be the government's doing.

Watchtower was first announced this summer as a full-length digital movie. Rather than release in theaters, it'll debut on Sony's Crackle streaming service before heading to DVD and video-on-demand services. Director Zach Lipovsky, who recently described the movie as "Indiana Jones with zombies," has said the movie takes place between Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 3.

Watchtower does not yet have a release date, but filming is underway.

Watch: Halo Nightfall Behind-The-Scenes Trailer

Microsoft has published a behind-the-scenes video for Alien director Ridley Scott's upcoming Halo: Nightfall digital series. The video introduces you to some of Nightfall's characters--including protagonist Agent Locke--and also highlights the overall narrative.

Nightfall stars Mike Colter (Million Dollar Baby) as Agent Locke, while Christina Chong (Star Wars: Episode VII) will also play a role in the film. Scott is the executive producer of Nightfall, which is directed by Battlestar Galactica's Sergio Mimica-Gezzan. Everyone who buys November's Xbox One game Halo: The Master Chief Collection will get access to Nightfall, though Microsoft has not yet announced plans to offer the series to everyone else.

Locke, described as a "legendary manhunter," is the focus of Nightfall. The series will provide his backstory, which fans may want to pay attention to, considering Locke is also going to be a major character in 2015's Halo 5: Guardians.

"A strange and treacherous world exposes elite UNSC operatives to a much deeper danger," Microsoft writes about Nightfall.

Though Locke is a primary character in Halo 5, series protagonist Master Chief is also at the heart of the story, Microsoft confirmed recently after it was suggested that the company was looking to retire Chief and replace him with Locke for future games.

In addition to Nightfall, Microsoft has tapped prolific film director Steven Spielberg to make a Halo TV series. This was announced back in May 2013, but we still don't know much about it.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection, which includes remastered versions of Halo 1-4, launches on November 11 for Xbox One.

Mass Effect Director Now Working On VR?

When Mass Effect director Casey Hudson announced his departure from BioWare in August, he said he was preparing to "take on a new set of challenges" for his next endeavor. Now, he's hinted that what's next on his plate could involve the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset.

Hudson posted an image on Twitter of an Oculus Rift headset with the caption: "It begins." He also mentioned @Oculus in the tweet, which featured the hashtag #VR. It certainly sounds like whatever Hudson is doing next will involve VR, but he hasn't announced any official plans and or tweeted again since the initial tease.

There are a number of possibilities regarding what Hudson's tweet might mean, the first of which is that he is working on a game/app/experience using Oculus Rift. It's also possible that he's joined Oculus VR itself, though the Facebook-owned company tends to herald high-profile new hires with official announcements, and none have been made so far about Hudson.

We'll continue to monitor the story as it develops. What are you hoping Hudson's vague tweet is in reference to? Let us know in the comments.

Zelda Spinoff Hyrule Warriors Adding Link Amiibo Support

Count Hyrule Warriors among the games that will work with Nintendo's line of Amiibo figures--the Link one, at least.

Nintendo announced on Twitter today that the Link Amiibo figure will work with Hyrule Warriors, which previously had not been included on the short list of Amiibo-compatible games. Unfortunately, we don't know exactly what the figure will do in the game; Nintendo has talked about hypothetical features in other games (place a figure on the GamePad and that character becomes playable in Mario Kart 8, for example), but it hasn't offered much in the way of hard specifics. It's saying absolutely nothing about Hyrule Warriors' use for Amiibo, only promising that more info is on the way.

Link is among the first wave of Amiibo figures launching in November for $13 each. These figures include NFC connectivity, allowing them to be recognized by the Wii U GamePad, similar to the way Skylanders toys work with the Skylanders portals.

Hyrule Warriors is already available on Wii U, having launched in September. There's no word on if it will work with the Link Amiibo immediately upon its release, or if the game will need to be updated in order to do so.

Previously, Nintendo said Super Smash Bros. for Wii U would be the first game to offer Amiibo support, with Mario Kart 8, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Mario Party 10, and Yoshi's Woolly World also to support them in the future.
